Innovation of Knowledge-Based Economies in the Time Period 1995–2010

Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article was to make an overview of the innovation system as one of the fourpillars of the knowledge-based economy (KBE) as well as to attempt to develop (based on taxonomicmethods) a synthetic measure for assessing the degree of the innovation of 29 economiesof this type throughout the time period 1995–2010. The layout of the work is subordinated to theso-defined purpose. The article consists of the following parts: introduction to the topic, characterization, measurement and analysis of the degree of innovation of KBE, and a brief summary. Theresults of the research obtained by the author allowed the creation of four rankings of the degreeof innovation of the 29 KBEs under study and led to the conclusion that in 1995–2010 the averagelevel of innovation in knowledge-based economies grew steadily (with the highest values receivedfor highly developed KBEs) and the scope of its volatility was reduced considerably.
