Summary/Abstract: The task of interpreting Karl Marx’s thought has been taken up by a number of contemporary Polish philosophers. Their interpretations have been variously modified on different planes. However, the modification proposed by Leszek Kołakowski is the only one to have presented two diametrically different ways of approaching Marxism. The present paper traces the evolution of Kołakowski’s views on. It explores the motives underlying the evolution process. The concluding section proposes a theoretical perspective that accounts for the outlined motives.
