Summary/Abstract: International trade development stands for one of the major projects that represent the foundation of contemporary international system efficiency. Even if at first the 20th century appeared to be influenced by the widespread nationalist approach that promoted small economic spaces development, the indicators obviously proved that during that period the international society evolved slowly towards an interconnected space from an economic point of view. The elements that favoured this type of expansionism are technological development, communications mainly, and the emergence of a new financial system. The basis of this economic-financial way of thinking was laid on the Bretton Woods Conference in July 1944. Irrespective of its inaccuracies, the financial system worked out within that conference still represents a reference point for the world economy globalization.
