Summary/Abstract: Jaroslav Mackerle (1913–1964) certainly belongs among the most prominent personalities of Malá Haná. He was already enchanted by the culture and history of this region during his childhood. Mackerle was born on 8th August 1913 in Jevíčko. After finishing his studies at the Real Grammar School in Jevíčko, he studied architecture at the University of Technology in Brno and during his studies he was interested in a cartoon film. In this period, he made a film Pejsek Čokl, which represents a certain allegory on the Italian invasion into Abyssinia (today’s Ethiopia) in 1935. This film was awarded in the international competition of amateur films in Berlin in 1936. After studies in Brno, Mackerle returned to his hometown and occupied himself with ethnography, archaeology and history of the town Jevíčko and surroundings. As regards Jaroslav Mackerle’s works, it is necessary to mention at least some of them; historical: Staré Jevíčko (1937, together with Emil Tutsch), Osvobozené Jevíčko (1946), Letopis města Jevíčka (1958), ethnographical: Pohádky z Jevíčka a okolí (1939, together with his wife Julie, born Worlová) and archaeological: Pravěk Malé Hané (1948). However, most of his works may be still found only as manuscripts. Jaroslav Mackerle did not live to a great age. After falling down the scaffolding in the square in Jevíčko, his health condition suddenly worsened. Later, a cancer, which he suffered from, became evident and he died on 3rd August 1964 at the age of 51 years. Nevertheless the bequest, he left , has survived up to the present time.
