THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE CONTENT

Summary/Abstract: In developing online courses there is a growing interest for developing interactive content. Studies show that the most important form of interaction in an on line course is the interaction between the student and the content of the course, followed by the student-teacher interaction and then by the student-student interaction. As a content developer you are always challenged to find attractive and interactive ways of presenting the content of a course. Sometimes a certain level of interaction is required, though there are still controversies about the number of levels of interactivity - some authors only refer to three levels, while others go up to five or more levels of interactivity. When developing an interactive content you usually start with a traditional text-based content that you need to transform in a format that is adequate for e-learning. From the text-based content to the interactive on line course there are a lot of aspects to consider: the level of interactivity required, the facilities and the constraint of the software used, the limited interactions possible on a screen, the multimedia elements to be included and the sources of adequate multimedia content, the characteristics of the future students and the particularities of the subject matter.
