Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the noun phrases used as arguments of verbs such as Russ. продать ‘sell’, купить ‘bye’, заплатить ‘pay’, торговать ‘trade’, etc. and the possibilities of their elision and modification in the three Slavic languages. The analyzed data have been excerpted from original and translated texts in the three languages. Componential analysis is applied to their semantics. Verbs of commercial transactions form a separate micro-field in the semantic field of possession. Their semantics defines the place of this micro-field in immediate proximity to the centre of the possessive semantic field and conditions their ancient prehistoric origin in the Slavic languages, antecedent to the appearance of the first written Slavic monuments. The noun phrases governed by verbs from this micro-field realise the valences of first and second possessor and of the possessed. These may be realized as complete sentences, as well. Although the verbs can form synonymic and antonymic pairs, the noun phrases they govern express their three arguments in different ways.
