Summary/Abstract: In spinning mills, the optimal correlation between the raw material properties, the yarn's characteristics and the manufacturing technology is a key point for the production of good quality yarns. Beyond of its significant influence on the yarn characteristics, the raw material determines also the yarns' cost, representing up to 80% of it. Using the blending technique, in which fibres with different properties are combined in order to obtain a mixture with average characteristics, it is possible to valorise all types of fibres and to produce yarns with the desired characteristics. In this regard, the yarn designer has to choose the appropriate fibres and to set the right values for blend ratios, in order to obtain the best correlation between the fibres blend properties and the yarn characteristics.
