Hoard of Roman denarii from Nova Ushytsia in Podillya (Ukraine, Middle Dnister Region)

Summary/Abstract: The article describes for the first time a rare find — new hoard of Roman denarius. Hoard found near Nova Ushytsia (Khmel’nyts’ka Oblast’, Ukraine). Besides coins, no other antiquities of the first centuries CE in place where hoard was discovered. In the complex are denarius I—III c. and one imitation silver Marcus Aurelius. Most of the coins were issued in the second half of II c. The type of all found coins is characteristic for the official coinage of Rome. It is also important that the coins are not breached. Consequently, they are not used to produce jewelry. The author believes that coins from the hoard were studied means of payment. The author believes that they have begun to actively come to the region in the second half of II c. This is explained by the intensification of contacts with the local people of Rome.
