Summary/Abstract: Professor of the University of Belgrade, Andrej Mitrović, PhD (Kragujevac 1937 – Belgrade 2013), a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, left a remarkable influence in both Serbian and Yugoslav historiography by high quality of his scientific writings. He was an outstanding educator, who encouraged and motivated numerous generations of students by his openness, communication skills, and freshness of methodological approach, and thus significantly determined the contemporary Serbian historiography. His bibliography with around twenty five monographs, more than four hundred articles in Serbian and various European languages is a proof of his outstanding creativity. He was a dedicated researcher of history of Serbia, Yugoslavia and Europe in 19th and 20th centuries, who wrote about political, economic and cultural history. He offered particularly great contribution in research of historical methodology. Professor Mitrović founded the Department for Contemporary History at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, established the Annual for Social History, and was a member of the editorial boards and editor of various other historical periodicals and series in history. He was given The October Prize (now the Prize of the City of Belgrade) as well as several prestigious international awards.
