Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on Zagreb biweekly Pop-Express, published from February 1969 till January 1970, during which time it emerged as an unexpected site for the creation and presentation of the local rock-culture. Pop-Express operated outside the mainstream media scene. Placed under the auspices of the youth union, it represents a constituent part of a unique genre: the youth press. After careful reconstruction of its historical, institutional and theoretical background, the article looks at Pop-Express in the two main regards. On the one hand, the magazin’s role in the translation of the Western rock-culture is analyzed, as well as its repercussions for its local variant. Conversely, the article portrays various innovations launched within Pop-Express that were to mark the wider mediascape.
