Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of a landscape protection area, one of the legal forms of conservation of nature in Poland. The aim of this study is to analyse this legal institution in chronological order, starting from the Preservation of Nature Act of 1934, then the Act of 1949 and next the Act of 1991 and currently in force the Act of the 16 of April 2004. The article presents the role and the meaning of a landscape protection area, which is create by a resolution of a voivodship local government in the form of a local legal act. A landscape protection area is a special area of ecological character and belongs to the system of protected areas. The act of the 24 of April 2015 called the landscape act introduces a new solution preventing from the degradation of a landscape and ensure its preservation. The article analyse also in terms of administrative judicial decisions.
