Summary/Abstract: The anthropologist who conducts his or her researches observing and recording on the field in the Romanian villages situated abroad the current borders of Romania is confronted with social phenomena which are specific to the post-socialist societies of the Central and Eastern Europe and to the ”post-peasant” communities. The study resumed in this article attempts to give answers to questions formulated in a context marked by this kind of specificity – Apșa de Mijloc/ Seredne Vodiane –, a Romanian village situated on the proximity of the Northern border of Romania, in the Ukrainian region of Transcarpathia. The review of the scientific literature is supporting the participant observation which describes the transformations into the ritual connected to funerals and to the commemoration of the dead. The study is integrated into an extended anthropological research focused on the cultural area of Transcarpathia and on the practices connected to identity and cultural heritage of the historical Romanian communities which are living here.
