Summary/Abstract: The history of the concept of neologism and of the discussions around this problem proves to be very dynamic in Romanian language. Since the XVIIth century a lot of linguists and cultural personalities presented a diversity of acceptation concerning the definition of neologism. Another debate was connected to the adaptation of borrowed words in the Romanian language. For the Romanian language, the neologism is still a concept that generates much debate. It represents the essential element of the modernization of the language and it marks an important turn from the Slavic cultural influence to Western culture. Thus, the neologism remains a very active linguistic phenomenon in the language and because the Romanian language is a language considered a paradise for borrowing, cultural adaptation by borrowing and lexical creations will continue.
