Budget transfers for non-public nursery schools in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Private nursery schools are playing an important role in Polish educational system. Findingwhat determines the amount of public funds sent to these institutions is the main subject of this publication.These studies have shown that the amount of the grant for private nursery schools mostlydepends on the remuneration of teachers employed at public nursery schools. Amended provisionsof the law did not significantly affect the amount of transfers to non-public nurseries schools. Atthe same time they made significant facilitation in principles of granting the subsidy for non-publicnursery schools. It is more transparent and predictable now. A threat for functioning of that kind ofinstitutions seems to be the unfavourable demographic forecasts which provide for a reduction in thenumber of children at pre-school age.
