Summary/Abstract: Vladan Đorđević (1844–1930), a doctor, politician, diplomat and historian, the Prime Minister during the last days of the Obrenović dynasty, was a very prolific writer, who left an extensive body of work behind him. In his novels and memoirs, he depicted tumultuous events in the cultural and political life of Serbia in the final decades of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A volume of his memoirs, Recollections, particularly stands out because of its importance and documentary value. In it, he painted social movements in Serbia, and provided a wealth of information from his private life. In this paper, we will pay special attention to the pages of Recollections, where Đorđević painted the portraits of his contemporaries, important cultural, political and scientific workers in Serbia at the turn of two centuries.
