Considerations on the development of specific policies and energy security of Romania in the twentieth century - hydrocarbons

Summary/Abstract: Romania is a country which had on its territory huge ressources of oil and began its large-scale exploitation in the middele of the 19th century with the involvements of foreign investors. While the Romanian authorities tried to keep a certain control on the resorces while also attracting foreign capitals, the external great powers like Germany and the Soviet Union constantly tried to control the Romanian oil to increase their own power and use it to continue the war efforts. Thus, the two world wars and the communist era led to a serious diminution of the Romanian oil ressources and nowadays Romania is a neat importer of oil and gas.
