Summary/Abstract: It can validly be claimed that the volume of literature written on the topic of the history of the Turkish revolution cannot change the reality of the past. When applying the perspective of new historicism on this subject, one is confronted by the question: which and whose reality? At this point one then begins to argue about whether history is art or science. History is not only the process of noting down details but also the process of constructing it into multiple dimesions. In this case considering history as literature is not wrong. Proponents of the new historicism theory consider history to be as fictional as any other text of literature. In this interpretation, the past is treated to a transformation through the process of writing, the experience of the writer, the world view of the writer and even the nature of the audience and turns into what is known as history. The claim of Sedat Veyis Örnek who considered that the creation of the Turkish national unit stimulated the phenomenon of the widespread religious reformation in which the idea of Turkish identity was equalized with the idea of Turkify the medium of worship, is an example of historicism of that period of the past. This paper will analyze the issue of Turkify the medium of worship as presented in the thesis of Sedat Veyis Örnek, entitled ‘Religious, Cultural and Social Reforms in Turkey between 1920-1938 and Comparison of Turkish-Japanese Modernism’, using the lens of new historicsm. The secondary issue of analysis treated with new historicism is the comparatives of the Turkish modernization experience with that of the Japanese modernization experience.
