The Poetry of Sedat Veyis Örnek Under the Context of Garip Movement

Summary/Abstract: After Tanzimat, Turkish literature has entered a period of innovation with living serious and rapid changes. The output point of this innovation is the presence of the artists returning primarily their face to the West. The understanding poetry spanning centuries of Court literature has stuck in some aspects and it has become to repeat itself. The intellectuals and artists who came into contact with West create new application areas to them with exploring new literary genre. Thus the current poetic forms and understanding are broken. All rules and regulations of Court poetry leave its place to Western art. In this process gradually evolving, as well as yet untested species the principal innovations finds own in poetry. The first steps of innovation would be content bet. The modernization which realized in formal plan with Servet-i Fünun continues until the first years of Republic. Taking lead to the ahead of populace with Republic, the poetry causes a new expansion in the understanding of poetry. While many of literary groups are expressing the understanding of poetry, Orhan Veli and his friends who will be referred with the name of Garip would be carried out the most remarkable output. They have developed a public rejection against to all usual un derstanding of poetry with manifesto that they have published. Refusing all the elements of poetic, they have gone through developing completely a free understanding of poetry. In the 1940s, they affected numerous poets and shipped to writing poetry in accordance with their understanding. A professor of Folklore Sedat Veyis Örnek is one of them. It is possible to see this effect in his four poetries which were written in his youth and published in Sivas Hakikat newspaper in 1949. Considering the dates of publication, whether they have evaluated such as a delayed impact of products, it is not possible to see these poetries out of Garip line. I will try to evaluate these poetries within the Garip manifesto framework in this article. In the first section, a general framework of Garip prologue will be drawn. In the second part, primarily will be given place to Sedat Veyis Örnek’s poetries and then they will be evaluated in accordance with the principles of Garip poetry.
