Summary/Abstract: Knitting art developed with protection and sheltering purposes of humans against the hard natural conditions since the early ages and then with the ornamentation purpose and it continues its existence today. Geographic and economic conditions, customs and aesthetic taste of the weaving persons are the effective factors in the development of the knitting art. These conditions have created regional differences in knitting and ensured the regions to have a unique knitting culture. Anatolia is a rich geography in terms of knitting art. In each region, knitting art appears with unique and sometimes common characteristics of Anatolia and shows a great variety in many aspects. Tunceli is one of the cities which have rich samples in weaving. Although researches were conducted on the cultural values of Anatolia, it is remarkable that the characteristics of Tunceli knitting samples were not touched on much. However, we know that Tunceli has quite a few examples on this issue. Based on this knowledge, it was decided that a research was needed to be conducted on Tunceli knitting. In order to obtain information on the issue, field screening was conducted throughout Tunceli by visiting the city. The examples obtained in the framework of this research were evaluated and documented. Socks and booties which are a part of the traditional clothing in the region and navmal used in ornamenting the interior of the houses and small knitting examples made against evil eye are cultural values which were applied in the past and are continuing to be applied today.
