Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the question of the function of science, in particular with the mission of sociology of organisations. As organisations seem to be spatial structures, where the contemporary social life may be observed as in a microscope, sociology of labour and sociology of organisations should be perceived as disciplines especially responsible for the future shape of societies. Research (especially the research within sociology of knowledge) should be conducted from the perspective of sociological imagination (C.W. Mills) in order to find out what functions of sociology of organisations are. As organisations are becoming bigger and bigger (independent) and more and more complex it seems that research within disciplines such as sociology of organisations should be based on the values of modern societies and especially focused on critical analysis.
