Anthropological Description of Love into Minstrel Tales

Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is love between man and women who in minstrel folk tales. Aim of the study is described the love narrated by minstrel tales. For this purpose, theories and models on love which based on ethnographic data and mainly developed by anthropologists, are utilized. The study is organized into three sections. In first section, a minstrel tale is analyzed by structural model developed by İlhan Başgöz. Second section is directly related to aim of the study. The love is described under six topics: First, indicators of romantic love are searched; after, the ways of represent of love are determined; then it is discussed that someone can be in love with how many person in same time; the effects determining the selection of a lover are listed; symptoms of being in love are revealed; and finally sings of courtship are explained. During the analysis is given examples from different minstrel tales and their variations. Some of the findings obtained at the end of the study are as follows: In minstrel tales are narrated traditional romantic love as coherent with almost universal features and in a quite perfect style. Love in minstrel tale is represented not only verbally but also experienced physically. The lover are generally approved by families at the beginning of the tales. Cultural love maps, economy and obstacles are primarily decisive in selection of lover. The most common courtship sings are music and present. The most significant symptoms of love on lover are given a special meaning to person with fell in love; intrusive thoughts, sexual attractiveness, and the desire to be together.
