The Concept of Prevention (Semantic Analysis)

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is the semantic analysis of the concept of prevention. The starting point for my analysis is a short history of prophylactics and prevention and an etymology of these terms and the selected meanings in Polish language (in common parlance and in science/humanities). Thereafter I present various types of prevention and the major topics of discussions about the preventic aims and means. Finally, I propose the extensional and intensional characteristic of the term „prevention” (the semantic field of this term).
