Summary/Abstract: Referring to the biblical truth about the creation of mankind brings about an exciting understanding of marriage, its sense and objective. Creating man in his own image, God created them as man and woman, and then he gave them a command to be fruitful and multiply and to subdue the Earth (Gen 1:27-28). Pope Leo XIII wrote: “in marriage there is something sanctified and religious, not added but innate, not received from people but rooted in the nature”. The divine origin of marriage means that it is not a purely human institution which is governed by the principles from this world or by individual human desires. It is God’s design. As God is the creator of marriage, man cannot ignore it. In this article we would like to look at God’s design for marriage, which is the contents of the teaching of the Church and her shepherds. In particular we would like to focus on the statements which present the place and role of love in marriage.
