Summary/Abstract: Corporal punishment is one of the most controversial child discipline methods because, even among professionals working in education, there is still no generally accepted defi nition. Starting from an experimental design, this study aims to explore how elementary school-aged children perceive the corporal punishment. One hundred and twenty-six pupils in 3rd- and 4th-grade were assigned to six different groups, according to modalities of the independent variables which were experimentally controlled (i.e., status of the person who apply corporal punishment and frequency of behavioral deviation). Our working hypotheses were partially supported.
