Summary/Abstract: De institutione musica is one of the most famous works by Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius. The author introduces the traditional forms of music and its properties. Boethius’s work is based on the Platonic and Pythagorean music tradition that defne the musical art as a harmonic mathematical discipline. Selected paragraph is concerned about Boethius’ division of the music into three types such as human, cosmic and instrumental music.
