Summary/Abstract: Taking into account the views of Paul Ricceur in the works Selfness as the Otherness (Soi-meme comme un autre) and Time and a Story (Temps et recit), this work deals with the constitution of selfness and the problem of a narrative identity in the novel Diary of a Bad Year by J. M. Coetzee. Through the relationship among two men and a woman, the reader views the self-understanding as a dynamic process between them and ipse identity, between the sameness and numerous inner differences or different othernesses in which the narrative identity intervenes The category of the othernesses ( the other world, the otherness of another person and the otherness og the selfness), the category og recognition, the relationship between ethic and moral responsibility are used as a contribution of the phenomelogy of a „capable man“.
