Summary/Abstract: Vicente Blasco Ibañez (1867-1928), a world-renowned Spanish novelist, journalist and politician, wrote many novels like Reeds and Mud (Cañas y Barro), Airs and Graces (Arroz y Tartaña) and Between Orange Trees (Entre Naranjos), the setting and the theme of which are centred on his native land Valencia where he spent most of his life and the Valencians. Ibanez also has a book titled East (El Oriente) in which he sincerely expressed his impressions about Turks and the city of İstanbul after a trip to Istanbul in the early 20th century through the legendary Orient Express train. The novel Between Orange Trees (Entre Naranjos) is set in the town Alcira in the south of Valencia. The novel tells a sentimental love story - the love flourishing between Rafael, a promising son of a well-to-do family, and Leonora, an opera singer, during the spring months when orange trees begin to blossom in a Mediterranean climate - which does not end happily because of the interference of Rafael’s family. In his novel, Ibañez not only tells a love story but also reflects upon the realities of political life and the social pressures imposed by the traditions in that period. This paper titled “The Spring in Vicente Blasco Ibañez’s novel Between Orange Trees” deals with the depictions of spring, the naturalistic features and the season-peoplesociety relationship in the naturalist writer Ibañez’s novel Between Orange Trees.
