A female conductor: an attempt to characterise success

Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. As in music literature, namely Choral Studies, a female-conductor is not well researched, the article makes an attempt to characterize psychological factors and determinants, which affect her success. Methodology. The methodology of the research is connected with the usage of the theoretical analysis and synthesis method, the integration of the analysis results. Scientific novelty. The article deals with success as a model of professional activity, the sphere of self-realization, the level of woman-conductor’s creative potentiality. The author distinguishes the factors of her successful conducting practice, particularly the motivation for achieving success, value orientations, artistic and aesthetic demands, social skills, steady mind, self-control etc. Conclusions. Nowadays, we can observe the growing women interest to a conducting career. Women are not only good choir leaders. They also well directors who create original and convincing versions of musical compositions. The prospect of working with professional choirs, possession of a whole set of musical knowledge, aptitudes, habits and skills, personal qualities necessary for successful creative activity, active life position, striving for self-realization and self-actualization make the women’s role in Ukrainian culture significant.
