Summary/Abstract: Regionalny wymiar „Solidarności” 1980–1981. Szczecin na tle kraju, red. Artur Kubaj, Michał Siedziako, Wydawnictwo Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej, Szczecin 2014The article discusses the concept of barbarian and barbarism in Mickiewicz’s Paris Lectures. The orientalisation of the Slavs by Herder and Hegel provides the context for this study. The author of the article presents how Mickiewicz originates his language from the works of Herder—who describes the Slavs as an idyllic nation, connected with the countryside—and later outlines the vision of the Slavs as a nation of power that wants to change the history of the 19th century.
