Summary/Abstract: In autumn 1916, German-Austro-Hungarian troops triggered one of the most successful campaigns of the Central Powers in WWI. Under the energetic General Erich von Falkenhayn, German 9th Army and the Austro-Hungarian units were able to pass Carpathians, occupy Bucharest and thus occupy three quarters of the country in less than four months. This article analyses the strategic concept behind this campaign, biographies of important military leaders and the organization of the German Army in 1916.
