Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the history and nature of the conflict between different empires on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented in the novel Chronicle of Travnik by Ivo Andrić. Geographically, Bosnia and Herzegovina was located on the border, belonging both to the East and West, essentially alwаys in the interspace. Historically, it was a meeting place of cultures, but also of the conflicts of empires - the Ottoman Empire in decline, Habsburg monarchy, and France. Andrić points to the different currents of influence in this novel: so the empires, each with its own representatives, consuls and viziers, affect the inhabitants of Travnik, and also, the same representatives of empires influence each other. Pointing to the primary characteristics of imperialism and colonialism, as well as their manifestations in the novel, we will deal with the conflict between East and West in Bosnia (Travnik), the similarities and differences between the imperial apparatus and mechanisms on both sides, but also the position of the population in Travnik, which is always dependent on the current government
