Summary/Abstract: In pursuing the redemptive work of Christ, Christians bring out from the deposit of faith the truth of religious life and develop new forms of piety. In modern times a special form of piety is the cult of Divine Mercy – Merciful Jesus. The theological truth of God’s mercy is deeply rooted in Revelation, it was developed by the Fathers of the Church and theologians and practiced in the liturgy. God’s mercy, especially revealed in the person and work of salvation of Christ deserves a special worship, as an expression of faith and love and the hope of eternal life. In the twentieth century, the cult of Divine Mercy became especially known, thanks to private revelations, recognized by the Church, which encourages the development of these forms of piety. This article presents the origins of the cult of Divine Mercy as well as its basis and validity in the present.
