Summary/Abstract: Freemasonry as a political and social phenomenon is viewed. The main versions of freemason origins and its typology are reviewed. The main symbols of the freemason and their meanings are characterized. The historic links of the freemasonry with different churches and state authority are analyzed. The stages of Ukrainian freemasonry development and its political orientations in XVIII-XX centuries are highlighted.
