Summary/Abstract: The times when a portable TV set “Šilelis” (16 or 32 cm in diagonal) was the only window to the world is in the past. Even now, after more than four decades of manufacturing the first TV set “Šilelis”, these TV sets may look innovative not only because of the black, white, yellow, red or green colour but also because of their design. The product that received a prominent Lithuanian name was born in one of the largest plants in Kaunas, in the radio engineering plant “Banga” (“The Wave”). However, this plant is known not only for the beloved TV set “Šilelis”. The article aims to systematize all available information about the radio engineering plant that was established in Kaunas, in Žaliakalnis area during the Soviet occupation. It also reconstructs the genesis of the factory from a historical perspective by identifying the main features of its development. Using the term plant, the author of the article follows the attitude approved in the Lithuanian historiography. This term means that the Soviet plant was not just an economic institute. It was responsible both for production and maintenance of the Soviet indoctrination.
