Summary/Abstract: The present article discusses food, nutrition, and eating out traditions of Kaunas residents in 1920s and 1940s. The research introduces various food products, their prices and availability during the indicated time period. Considerable attention is given to the nourishment of Kaunas residents in 1920s and 1940s. The article discusses daily nutrition habits and practices, with a specific focus on various public places such as restaurants, confectioneries, canteens, and snack bars. The article not only explores the menu in those public places but is also interested in prices. Moreover, the research takes a closer look into the visitors: with reference to their reminiscences, the experience of the visitors is revealed. Various forms of entertainment which occurred in restaurants and confectioneries are mentioned; popular canteens where Kaunas residents (students, labourers, and even the poor) dined are referred to. The article describes sausages and ice-cream, which were very popular and tasted in Kaunas streets. Lastly, the research briefly discusses the dishes purchased and eaten in the streets as well as take-away food in Kaunas.
