Summary/Abstract: More and more often, the necessity of engaging the lay faithful in the missionary activity is mentioned in the Polish Church. In this article we show the evolution of the view on the place and role of laypeople in the missionary work which we observe in Magisterium Ecclesiae. The lay faithful are no longer considered as financial and prayer support for the missionaries – clergymen but as missionary disciples, fully fulfilling the Christ’s missionary call: “Go into the whole world and preach”. The article draws attention to the reasons for the laypeople’s missionary involvement and the forms of missionary activity accessible for them. In the last part of the article, we mention the current urgent issues that are considered by the missionary societies in Poland concerning the place of laypeople in the missionary activity, the request for them and the character of their work.
