Summary/Abstract: The location and the importance of “Ashiks” are in an important position in forming socio – cultural heritage which belongs to the community and in transmission of traditions and customs genaration by generation. Ashiks and the tradition of ashiks which have been appeared in Anatolion in 16th century and become a continued existence of “the tradition of ozan baksı” have gained a manner and genuine which will response to the enjoyment and the perception of a new life in a new land. Ashiks have taken important duties in everyterm in conveying the customary and social environment, the manner of life, traditions and customs which belong to the life of community. They have performed these important duties and functions with their poems and epics. Derdiçok who was born in Afşin is one of the most popular poet and ashiks and is a represantative of the tradition of Ashiks in 20th century. Derdiçok is one of the cabaple villager poet who has been educated by our folk poet traditions in centuries. He has gotten his prestige in a short time with his experienced poesy in the region in wich he has lived in 20th century when the tradition of Ashiks has lost its former popularity and has tried to gain its former power. He has used of a pure language which he had integrated and decorated with the features of which resembles folk pleasure. He has come into life the socio – cultural life of Kahramanmaraş and Afşin with reflecting his poems in his life time, he put into words the culturel environmet and voice throght the customs with the best way. He has scpial and important place to be compared with Dertlis, Gevheris even Karacaoğlans has importance of Derdiçok, through the traditional minstrel.
