Summary/Abstract: The author of this article examines the currently fashionable notion of a sovereign, disseminated by the Law and Justice (PiS) party in the election campaign of 2015. The semantic and axiological evolution of this historic concept has been presented in conceptual terms as well as within the so-called theory of parity. The concept of sovereign chosen from the field of conceptual ‛ruler’ was attributed to the nation and citizens. With time, however, that understanding was re-evaluated, and the changes related to the entirety of the lexical value of expression. The author also considers the functioning of the concept of a sovereign hand in hand with the loudly unspoken (i.e. empty space) notion of vassal functioning on the level of latent conceptualization. Evolving meanings, reversal of these words by politicians of different options is exemplified by their words.
