Sources of Folk Literature of the Kirim Karaylar: "Mecumalar"

Summary/Abstract: The folk literature, which is originated from the oral culture, is composed of the oral literature that is mostly created by the People. This literature which is tightly bounded to the folk culture as regards the language, form and the subjects handled was continuing its existence in the beginning, but from the 15th Century on, it was started to pass to the Inscription. It is possible to encounter “Mensur” narrations such as epos, stories, tales in Cönk’s where the poetic collations such as folk songs, Turkish poems and ballads. The sources qualified as cönk’s in which the folk literature works of Karai Turks were collected are named Mecuma. Mecuma’s which contain quite valuable information as to the contained materials and are written in Hebrew letters, have been unearthed gradually. In this study, information will be given about the form and content of mecumas, the folk literature sources of Karai Turks, and some mecuma shall be introduced.
