Summary/Abstract: Poetic language has caught the attention of researchers for many years since it presents a special and effective structure. Researchers have tried to describe the poetic language by using various scientific methods and they have reached some productive results. However, the dimensions of these studies have expanded with modern linguistics. The data related to the term of sign, semiotics and meaning were used for poetic texts which are the products of language. One of the linguists who studied on the signs of natural language was Hjelmslev. The linguist, who focused on the formation of sign, used the terms of expression and content for two different plains of sign and substance and form to clarify the layers in these two plains. By using these terms he accelerated the studies in semiotics. Here, the expression and content plains of poetic texts and substance and forms in these plains will be discussed.
