Summary/Abstract: The pendulum of history has repeatedly pushed Ukraine from the West to the East and back again. Petro Doroshenko in the 17th century seemed to be the only one who seriously attempted to break this historical continuum by seeking a third way. Could his failure act as a warning sign for any future attempt at breaking the cycle?
