Summary/Abstract: The article was written just before the Law on Restitution and Compensation was adopted in Serbia. Therefore, it provides a general overview of the provisions provided by the law. The chronological developments in the country, in this field were mentioned as well. In addition, the articles deals with the issue of reasons for drafting and adopting such a law, question of timing of its adoption, as well as comparative experiences from the region and neighbouring countries. Also, the European Court of Human Rights relevant jurisprudence was provided. One of the conclusions of the author was that the adoption of the law is a positive signal, as such. On the other hand, a transparent and proper implementation of the Law will be needed in order to fully satisfied professional and general public.
