Summary/Abstract: The text presents historical experiences of the executive power in Switzerland. The most important regulations in this area (covered in the constitutions dating from 1848 and 1874, and the one that is currently obligatory from 1999), are described. The Swiss realisation of separation of powers is characterized. Also the so-called ”magic formula” (Zauberformel) is discussed. In conclusion, it is noted that Swiss solutions are specific, but they always require to be based on current law.
