Summary/Abstract: Michael Saakaszvili is the leader of a new generation who implemented a series of deep reforms in the social, political and economic areas. Georgia has strengthened its position in international organizations and has partnered with Western countries. It failed to quell separatist movements in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Armed conflict with the Russian Fede¬ration led to their separation from Georgia. Political camp of president Saakashvili lost the next general elections, which allowed the opposition members to make a rematch and appoint the government. Reforms have resulted in higher prices and other difficulties for residents. Offset from the positions of people involved in corrupt activities caused discontent and hatred for the president-reformer. However, in a more democratic left office, along with his political backing he went to the opposition. Saakaszvili has modernized Georgia and fostered democracy and economic prosperity of citizens. The actions of president Saakashvili may serve as a pointer and a beacon for other post-Soviet states in carrying out the transformation.
