Summary/Abstract: Bálint Csűry launched an influential academic programme in the 1930s, targeted at boosting Hungarian dialectology research. As a professor at the University of Debrecen, he chose some students to participate in this programme and prepared them to do academic research. He founded the Institute of Dialect Research in Debrecen, as well as the academic journal entitled “Hungarian Dialectal Language”. The most important result of his academic career, which lasted a decade, is the creation of a school of dialect research. His students completed Csűryʼs academic work in several ways and in different fields. This heritage can also be tracked back in Olga Penavinʼs academic career. Based on her versatile and interdisciplinary oeuvre, she can be regarded as the most significant representative of Csűryʼs school of linguistics.
