Summary/Abstract: The existing empirical literature is ambiguous in findings on how the level of industrial concentration is related to the international competitiveness of the industry. This relation can have a different nature and can be explained differently depending on size and degree of openness of particular economy. In this article we examine the relationship between industry structure and international competitiveness for a panel of 10 key industrial sectors over the period from 1999 to 2014 in the Slovak Republic that is considered to be small, open and export-oriented. The results indicate that international competitiveness improves with a change towards a more concentrated industry structure.
