Summary/Abstract: The article describes the genesis of can. 226 § 1 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which has its origin in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council. The subject of the special obligation are the lay Christian faithful who are married. They are obligate to strive for the building up of the People of God through their marriage and family.
