Summary/Abstract: Vuk Karadžić’s interest in people laughter is especially expressed in the first editio of Dictionary in 1818, where we can, among other things, find erotic and obscene vocabulary and prose based upon pagan fertility rituals, which were at that time still present in Serbian agricultural culture. This is important not only if we talk about lexis (vocabulary), but also as a starting point for the analysis of those particular expressions in their authentic context, of which Vuk also left some notes [See a commentary with the word Poskočica in Dictionary – S.Đ.], and that leads us to a conclusion that there existed an undoubted connection among the erotic, obscene and sacral in the concept of laughter in the world of the premodern man as well as the existence of the concept of the Universe as a whole and the way it functioned.
