Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this work was to examine female characters in Raheela’s Mourning by Konstantin Marinkovic. The results are the following: there are several heroines that could be interpreted as positive or negative, active or passive. Since our source has intertextual connection with the Bible, its heroines are distributed as black or white. Mother Mary, mothers from Bethlehem, Raheela and Dorida are positive, yet passive female characters. Although some of them posses certain powers (Mother Mary is a saint and protected by the God himself, and Dorida is the monarch’s wife) none of them has the influence on the current events. On the other hand, furies, esspecially Alecto, are negative and active, they are satan’s emissaries with their own will and decisions, they control other people and create the reality. Conclusions reached contain verification that women are seen as socially acceptable if they have no authority. Powerful heroines are marked as creatures from hell.
