Womens’ animated films within Polish cinematography

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the postwar history of Polish animated film as seen through the presence of female directors and the evolution of this presence in modern times. The text examines how the policies of a totalitarian state in the past and the policies of subsidized institutions (the Polish Film Institute, in particular) influenced this presence and shaped the functioning of cinematographic institutions and the culture of film production in Poland, and what the aspect of gender, which differs significantly from what occurred in this sphere in free-market countries, tells researchers and viewers about Polish animated film.
